I have recently made a clean install of 16.04.3LTS on a new laptop. I am trying to share files from my ubuntu laptop on my home network. I want only specific users to be able to access the samba shares, and require password authentication.
Currently, either Windows 10 has full access with no password required???? What is wrong with my samba config? This usually happens when the samba user matches the currently logged on user. So if you create a samba share for CHAD and on the remote PC, your username is also CHAD it wont ask for a password and let you in.
Windows 10 makes Julia log in whenever she leaves her laptop alone for a few minutes. Happily, it’s very easy to change that, but it does raise security issues.
(I believe the passwords have to match as well, it turns into like an auto login, so to speak). Now if you want to make the share require a password no matter what, what you could try is add the line security = user to your smb.conf and it should require a password now. This is all assuming both usernames on the client and server are the same.
I would like to configure this windows 10 machine to not ask for a password when resuming from IDLE, but still ask for a password when resuming from STANDBY or HIBERNATE. The screen needs to turn off after 5 minutes and NOT use a screen saver.
The only information I can find is about disabling the lock screen password entirely - which is not what I want. Whether the lock screen continues to show or not is relevant as long as it doesn't require a password.
Version is Windows 10 Pro. It is also connected to a SBS2011 domain. Using gpedit, set the 'Allow users to select when a password is required when resuming from connected standby' policy to 'Enabled' under 'Computer Administrative Templates System Logon ' OR HKEYLOCALMACHINE SOFTWARE Policies Microsoft Windows System 'AllowDomainDelayLock'=dword:00000001 reference: In my case, after enabling this policy, the screen just stays on (ignoring my screen timeout setting) presumably until the sleep timer triggers. I am unable to find a location to set the 'Require a Password after the display is off for.' Timer that was previously available in Windows 8.1 AccountsSign-in Options.
